Personal Investment Accounts from 2027 – what do Poles expect?
OKI to launch on 1 January 2027. The market is to assess how they should work
From 1 January 2027, Individual Investment Accounts, or OKI, are to become available in Poland. This new solution is meant to allow saving and investing on preferential tax terms. The question, however, is not only whether the product will catch on, but also how it should be structured so that it meets the needs of ordinary savers.
As part of a survey prepared together with Prof. Krzysztof Borowski of the Warsaw School of Economics, the organisers want to find out which features of OKI would best match clients’ needs. This also includes people who today approach investing with great caution.
Various types of assets will be able to be held in OKI. Up to the statutory limit of 100 tys. zł, they are to benefit from an exemption from the tax on asset value. Of this amount, no more than 25 tys. zł may be held in the savings portion.
Income from assets held in OKI will not be subject to the capital gains tax. Funds will be available for withdrawal without having to wait until retirement age, which sets this solution apart from many products associated with having money locked up for a long time.
The survey is anonymous and takes a few minutes. Responses are being collected until 10 October, and the results are to be discussed on the site a few days later. The study is being carried out together with Prof. Krzysztof Borowski of the Warsaw School of Economics in Warsaw.
