Economists on the future of the Polish economy and the new challenges for businesses

The economic transformation is increasingly entering the conversation about company finances

Does sustainable development mainly mean new obligations and costs, or is it a necessary modernization of the Polish economy? This question is increasingly moving beyond the ESG debate and beginning to affect everyday business decisions, from investment to loans.

In cooperation with Sustainable Investment Forum Poland – POLSIF, 13 chief economists from banks operating in Poland were asked about this. Their answers were compiled in the report “Polska (jeszcze nie) zrównoważona gospodarka”.

The discussions show that the transformation is already affecting risk assessments, the cost of capital and banks’ lending policies. For companies, that means greater pressure to adapt to new requirements. In the short term, this may raise costs, especially where investment in energy, technology and process modernization is needed.

Economists, however, point out that over the longer term the changes could improve competitiveness. This is not only about lower energy use, but also about better preparation for EU regulations, the growing importance of artificial intelligence and demographic change.

The report also asks which sectors could benefit and which will face the greatest pressure. For entrepreneurs, this is a signal that decisions linked to the transformation no longer concern only large industrial groups, but could also affect financing conditions and the pace of growth for smaller firms.
