Bankier.pl Finance Forum on investments and the future of bitcoin
Bitcoin, altcoins and MiCA: what came up at the Finance Forum
On the second day of Bankier.pl’s Finance Forum, the focus was on investing, with cryptoassets taking center stage. The debate returned to the question of when bitcoin will again move above $100,000. There were also forecasts based on the halving cycle, that is, the division of the reward for mining bitcoins.
One answer was brief: $100,000 for bitcoin is expected to be realistic by the end of the year, and $1 million over a 10-year horizon. The discussion also mentioned JP Morgan’s forecast, according to which the average rate of return on bitcoin over a 10-15 year horizon is expected to be 10%. Participants also recalled that after the halving, an ATH, or a new all-time high, usually appears after 420 to 440 days.
Not everyone views this pattern with the same confidence. One of the comments pointed out that when recurring patterns start to emerge in financial markets, investors quickly appear who try to exploit them. At that point, the pattern stops working the way it used to. There was also the argument that rising interest rates have made it harder to hold bitcoin for the long term, because the cost of such a strategy is higher today.
The discussion also reflected a shift in how the crypto market itself is seen. Bitcoin is increasingly being treated as a long-term investment asset rather than a tool for quick speculation. Meanwhile, middle-aged investors, according to the studies cited, believe that around 10% of a portfolio can be allocated to cryptoassets. As for altcoins, or alternative cryptocurrencies, the panel spoke about a maturing market and the fact that some investors now choose projects built around a real solution to a problem, rather than just thousands of new tokens.
The panel also touched on regulation. According to participants, the failure to implement MiCA into Polish law is a serious problem, because without clear rules traditional financial institutions are reluctant to enter the crypto market. At the same time, companies licensed in other countries are already operating, so the situation is not completely blocked for buyers and sellers of assets. Still, it was noted that if Poland delays for too long, it may become one of the last countries in the EU to move into tokenization, meaning the conversion of assets into digital tokens.
